H-1Bs using Fake Resumes in Huge Numbers to escape India Squalor

For years Indians have struggled. They have the experience, but how to translate it in a way that will get them the precious H-1B visa to America’s golden shores?

After a few years witnessing the continual buildup of fake resumes, we seem to have finally cracked the armor and have had several candidates who have presented their fake resumes fess up. We take the direct approach – “We know your resume is fake because it has all the earmarks of the typical fake resumes we receive daily. If you want help finding work, please send us your real resume and we will help you.” This direct approach works more times than not. It results in both an admission that the resume is fake and the submittal of the candidate’s real resume. We also ask why, why are you using the fake resume? The response is universally the same. These people do not believe that they can find work in the US relying solely on their actual experience. They feel they have to inflate it to a great degree just to get noticed. They also tell us that the company they work for, typically a third party/pass through consulting agency, wrote the resume for them. –Steve Fleischner

Yes the fakes have gotten worse. One resume from a curry chef in Hydrabad had spelled “Microsoft” “MerkroSoft”. Another insisted he had over 30 years experience “Percolating Java”. Finally one tailor in Bombay submitted a resume for his H-1b stating “Inventor of Unix and the World Wide Web”

Yes, with the entire third world desperate to get free citizenship in the USA using the H-1B visa, most do not write their own resumes. The placement agencies have full time writers, leading to a new job profession in the slums of India – professional resume writer.

“If I can make three different kinds of curry, how many years of C sharp experience does that translate to?” asked one befuddled old man. Many other candidates for the visa were struggling with terms in the job placement ads “They want a candidate who knows ORM and Agile. I do yoga so I’m pretty agile, but they don’t say if they want Ashtonga or virdayana? How do I answer this!” screamed Vetanaya Gamesh.

In the end it’s a win win. America gets the labor they need and India gets rid of its untouchable caste. Each nation reaps the rewards of business process off-shoring. And maybe America will find a few new good cooks as well. “Yes, dis is de new way” screamed Vitriki Murthy. “I was a call center operator, but with my new resume, I have fifty years experience in embedded systems. Let me tell you once you’ve been embedded in a smelly call center 16 hours a day, you are ready for a new Career America”

  2. Obviously these inflated fake resumes need to be stopped. Crying over spilled milk is not going to solve this. This needs to be put into the attention of somebody in higher authority. These fakers need to be tested / certified before issuance if permit to work. Wanting an H1B is not bad, but are you certified to have it. They should be tested just like what foreign healthcare doctors or nurses go through. They pass then they are good.

  3. Once I got my own resume from a H-1B candidate, I mean mine with the name changed!@ Another big issue is most of the H-1Bs the few who DO have degrees, only have a 3 year degree. That’s the standard in many programs but it doesn’t qualify for a H-1B which specifies a four year degree is required. But they still get in. There needs to be a real fair agency in India to double check these things and the fact is there just isn’t. The US Visa service finds 50% of application utterly fraudulent and rejects them and that still isn’t enough because it only takes a modicum of preparation to have a fake paper trail.

  4. Job robbers were never supposed to stay in the US forever. In 1998 when the flood began they all promised to go home in 2002 after the dot-com boom. They are still here. Why? Not only are they here, they are TAKING over.

[in fact the H-1B allows them to stay here six years then if they have a green card application filed they can stay indefinately. Also even if their H-1B has expired many simply stay for several extra years with no protest from ICE -ed]

  5. One reason why they are still here is the government rules make it illegal for computer workers to work for themselves. The indians have set up body shop companies as go-betweens. American engineers are the least free and most enslaved in the entire world.

  6. Hey…Before writing anything you should look into yourself…If you want the cheap labor, thats what you get..If somebody came from india…Passout with 4.0 GPA in masters, but when the visa system fails them …Thats what you Get America….Its your scheme..And you are looking for mistakes of indian people.I am working for almost 10 years now…I find american people lazy and Deluted…

[You are only working because you are dirt cheap labor for greedy industrialists to exploit. Americans are not lazy at all they have been betrayed by their government. And a 4.0 in a curry den isn’t equal to a crayon in kindergarten in a real school]

    1. Go Home Visa · · Reply

if you think Americans are lazy and stupid moderchod, then go back to india fucker – you’re not welcome here job robber, go home !!!

  7. I am sick of seeing fake resumes and some of my HR and managment hiring them. They are getting fool from these indians house wifes, who is being Quality Assurance engineer. Their husband is in IT field getting help from them. Also seeing, some places South Indians has their monpoly, they only hire their people and teach the IT work at job while Mike, Kevin, and Stcy American graduates being under paid or have no job. TIME TO WAKE UP AMERICA

  8. I have to agree with the post and anger. I am from Nepal. Indian consultant has brought down the IT industry in USA. I would say 90% of Indian workers have massively falsified their resume. The style of coding is crap. Meetings sounds like FISH market with them blaming each other on issues. Absolutely no professionalism.

I found about these issues when I had to apply for job in Atlanta area. I have 6 years of experience in C# and from a Fortune 100 company. I was hoping I would not have any issue at all finding my next career. However I barely got any calls. Either companies were looking for cheap workers or they were Indian hiring only Indians.

This is pathetic that they do not have any DIGNITY. Whats surprising is US Companies are buying their story.

I am sure there are few Indians with excellent IT knowledge, but the 90% just piggy back on their name to scam the money out. Just pathetic people.

The problem of fake resumes does not just stop at the contractors and 3rd party recruiters. It also lies with the companies in US recruiting these people. Every B grade Manager hires a C grade engineer. The managers don’t want an engineer better than and hence they prefer to hire the “contractors” through these 3rd party recruiters because they feel their job will be safer. Also after the recession there is lot of pressure on managers to hire “talented people”, and they like to hire candidates with 6-7 years of Fake experience vs candidates with 3-4 years of Real experience. These managers get “experienced candidates” to cover their backs and these engineers are not as intelligent as them and this keeps their jobs safe. I have observed that even with larger companies like Cisco, Intel, Microsoft, Yahoo and many more. Sun Microsystems went down because of these fake resumes and low grade engineers and Yahoo was going the same way before Marissa stepped in and fired lot of these engineers. Intel, Oracle, Cisco and Juniper are following Sun now.

Lets also remember that these 3rd party recruiters are supported legally by American lawyers and I have personally spoken to these recruiters and spoken to these “liars”. When I was a masters student on student (F1) visa (in US) and his lawyer spoke to me about how they could sponsor me a H1B if I shelled out 3k. I went the “right way” and waited for 2 years till I received permanent residency through my spouse. I went back to school and did some personal projects. Now when I apply to companies they don’t hire me because of the “break”. All the other people who would “fake” experience for the gaps in their resume get calls for interviews. International students who take the right legal path also suffer because of these contractors and recruiters who produce fake experiences.

I have even seen cases where engineer’s wife got fake work recommendation by his boss (who was an American) to cover her gap in her resume and her LinkedIn profile shows she is still working since many years.
Its weird, but I think it is the system which needs to be changed and the laws need to be stricter.

    1. awesome info and from what i assume is an indian. All indians aren’t against us, many are hurt by the crooks in the system just like americans.

Agree! I myself an Indian and I am ashamed and at the same time angry with the entire system. Let me tell you a story (a real one). “Raj” came to USA, went to a reputable school, did his masters, completed 3 internships, all with Fortune 500 firms, before landing in a job as a mid level engineer. All this took 3 years of hard work. “Rahul” on the other hand, came to USA, went to a school, who main purpose is to shield people like him with F1status(student visa) until they get their work permit aka cirruculum practical training. In just six months after coming to US “Rahul” was able to fetch a contractor position by faking his resume with the help of a consultant. Guess what, now “Rahul” makes six digit salary and he leads of team of 4. This is not just “Rahul”; >80% of the Indian contractors you see in IT firms has the same story. This is an open truth, the companies has to get their act straight when hiring folks. It is good to see USCIS getting strict in issuing H1b’s but again the company management has to scrutinize and have stringent controls in place to filter fake resumes.

  12. Several behavioral and linguistic studies have indicated a severe discordance between gultis and all other members of the Hominoidea superfamily under normal conditions (p-value < 0.0001). Hence, the more recent scientific theory suggest that gultis might have evolved differently from the rest of the humankind and might not have any common ancestors either.

TGB, or "typical gulti behavior", is usually associated with frauds in the US – from anything like taxes and fake resumes to employment visas and green cards. Gultis are considered largely responsible for bringing down the employment based immigration system in the US. They are usually found working in IT bodyshops in NJ on a job that is acquired through all unethical means possible, including fake resumes and fake experience.

A common practice in the gulti community is to mate with first cousins and other close relatives (quite often, potential mates could be uncles and neices), as a result of which, certain genetic disorders that are rare otherwise, are quite common amongst gultis. It is believed by many leading geneticists that the remarkably higher tendency of gultis to lie, cheat, and fake does indeed have a strong genetic link which is perpetuated by the remarkably higher tendency to form incestuous relationships.

  13. Indians teach us a strong lesson of what happens when your whole society mates with negroids ant that dangerous negroid gene becomes pervasive in your society. All of them are now mass breeders, loo morality, and only average to low intellect. America is now on this path. Do we want to become india?

  14. Man, the racism in the comments is intense. Aren’t a lot of the scamsters on Wall street white? Trying to put blame on a single nationality is bad reasoning and racist. Isn’t Bernie Murdoch white? Isnt Jeffrey Skilling (CEO of Enron) white? Read up on the worldcom scandal in which Bernie Ebbers was involved. And he’s not Indian either. Then there is the TYCO scandal worth $150 Million by Dennis Kozlowski (also not Indian). There is the healthsouth scandal in whichRichard M. Scrushy was the key player ($1.4 Billion scandal). The Freddie mac scandal is in the tune of $5 Billion in mis-stated earnings, which, by the way, was scammed by David Glenn (not Indian for those of you who don’t get it). The AIG scandal was worth $3.9 Billion and the main player Hank Greenberg wasn’t Indian.

Satya Nadella (CEO of microsoft) is an Indian
Shantanu Narayen (CEO, Adobe Systems Inc since 2007; board member, Pfizer) is an Indian
Rakesh Kapoor (CEO, Reckitt Benckiser Group Plc) is an Indian
Ajit Jain (President, Berkshire Hathaway Reinsurance) is an Indian
Indra Nooyi (Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer, PepsiCo) is an Indian
Anshu Jain (Co-CEO, Deutsche Bank) is an Indian
Ajay Banga (President & CEO, MasterCard) is an Indian.

This is the fact: All kinds of people exist in all nationalities, including Indian.

Get you facts right before passing judgement about a nationality.

    1. Yes! There are good people too! But LOTS OF THEM are cheating with Fake resumes. You don’t know how you feel when you are looking for job with your real resume and after you get a job barely. You will see in the company there are 6-7 people with no real experience and if you dig little bit they would have “7 years of experience”. And I went there with my 4 years of experience and I always help them setup their workspaces and help them to fix their assignments. Thats unjust! if you could understand hassles finding job you wouldn’t back them up! A lot of recruiters just ignore me because I have 4 years of experience and they want 7 years even it is fake!

IT industry in US was CORRUPT by those Indians who runs small IT consultancies!

Jeez, no wonder Abode Flash still freezes when it opens & no wonder Microsoft latest OSs suck…seriously, who’s idea was it to get rid of Safe Mode in Windows 8? What will those crazy Indians come up with next?

I know not all Indians are bad people, but the majority of scams come from India & Nigeria. The majority of telemarketers who have called me have been Indian. Also, alot of them are using H1Bs to scam IT industry. I had to report to a small business that an Indian IT company was using their business address fraudulently. Not saying scams don’t happen elsewhere, but the frequency of scams are higher in those parts of the world. What’s with that? I know India is a poor country & all but the corrupted Indian firms make corrupted US firms look like ‘heaven’.

  15. The VA health care system is being ruined by paper doctors from India.

    1. OMG I am dealing with one of these docs now. Shes a total quack. I ran out screaming QUACK. Later I found out her degree was in India. They basically just spend 2 years studying to pass the boards, they have little ability to diagnose illness. Still they must be accepted as residents for 2 years somewhere in America, but I’ve noticed docs take kickbacks on this, many american docs in their 60s just want a few more bucks to retire, so they buy that too. So after an investment of only 30k for all that, and with no undergrad degree at all, they walk into 700,000 dollar a year jobs in America. its a disgrace.

IT companies beware. I believe the IT industry is being infiltrated by these con artists. H1Bs are ABUSING the system for their own personal self-interest. There needs to be restrictions on H1Bs. I don’t care if you are from India, Germany, Mexico, or Mars, you should not be allowed to work unless you are a LEGAL US Citizen.

  17. Anonymous · · Reply

I’m all for people who want to come to the US to create a better life, but under one condition….they must OBEY the laws of THIS country. If you come here illegally, you better (a) respect the law & (b) obtain US Citizenship (if you plan on living here). Many of H1Bs have NO IDEA how the law works & are taking advantage of gullible people who are trying to find work. A long time ago, it was required you’d be a US citizen to work, & from what I remembered, immigrants could obtain US citizenship by passing a test….WTF is happening to America?

i am looking for a job in IT after a long break. I have good educational background and past experience in IT. To compensate for my break , I have a few certifications. I have been applying to entry level and junior positions along with other positions. Not a single recruiter has called me back!!! I am originally from India but now a US Citizen. The reason , I think I don’t get called by recruiters is because my resume does not stand a chance with its big gap in employment in comparison to this highly modified fake resumes!! Honestly, until I actually started looking for a job, I had no idea about how common this has become. I would rather get a job the honest way but will I ever??? What I cannot comprehend is how this practice can go on for years without anyone finding out?? The only thing I can conclude is that in most places Highups are involved in this scam.
This is my situation. I am applying without response, my family and friends are indirectly hinting or directly asking me to add some fake experience. I am feeling pressured by them and the job market. I am praying that I find a job the honest way. It feels like there is no place for honesty and that eventually honest people will be left behind. The whole concept of H1B is to hire foreign worker if no skilled worker is found in US. But thats not what is happening. Indian consulting companies are hiring clueless employees , training them and replacing jobs of Americans. What is American Government doing for their jobless people? Why can’t American companies instead hire educated and skilled people (like me) and train them if required?

    1. First of all, as an Indian, I hope you realize the horrific abuse and damage the H-1B visa has caused for American citizens. Bringing in six million foreign workers into a job category only 4 million large can only result in drastic upheaval. I don’t think its your “break” as much as the fact that things are just outrageously flooded right now, over 2 million software engineer citizens are now unemployed and so every job just gets hit with hundreds of resumes. Does yours stand out? Is it the best? Maybe consider interning to get more current. For America to turn its back on its engineers for Obamas recent statement of opening up the flood gates to even more is a direct act of GENOCIDE by the government against its own people. Nothing less.

The H1B itself is not a problem here. The use of false information like fake work history to obtain the H1B is the problem. The undue advantage taken of the loop holes in the system is the problem. According to law, an H1B can be filed only if no resource is available locally. But thats not what happens. Job positions are advertised. American green card holders and citizens apply to these jobs not realising that the jobs are posted just to fullfill the requirement of the process. They have already decided whom they are hiring. If every H1B was filed honestly, by following the law , America would not require so many H1Bs. There are lots of professionals who come on H1B and are a boon to the American economy, but there are lots who fake their experience and hence cost the American people and economy. But this is like credit card fraud. Nothing is really being done to stop the people who are doing this.

    1. it isnt true at all. there is no provision to find local people first. none at all. you are confusing the green card hire requirements with the h-1b

Maybe I am confused 😦 But I see the same exact job openings from the same companies over and over again. They have been appearing for the last 6 months atleast. Could it because they cannot find people or could it be that they select only to find that candidate is not suitable ?

    1. I bet they are using it to fish for resumes to put their names on. Only use PDF resumes!
